I'm Agnieszka Lokaj, a contemporary artist and curator based in London.
My artistic journey began later in life, after spending years immersed in the world of technology. While my style has evolved from realistic landscapes to abstract expressions, my core purpose has remained unchanged: to create art that is a genuine reflection of human experience.
I usually paint in acrylics and oils on canvas or canvas boards. I am always inspired by our connection to the world - how we connect to nature and other people, what we hide and what we show.
As an artist with ADHD, my neurodiversity has profoundly shaped my creative journey, allowing me to hyperfocus and explore multiple ideas simultaneously. I’m passionate about understanding mental health and its impact on how we live, create, and connect with others, particularly the theme of the shadow self and the things we hide from ourselves.
My work has been exhibited at various exhibitions and art fairs. I was longlisted for the Women in Art Emerging Artist Prize and I was selected to participate in Re:Create Richmond!, a business support program designed to boost the creative industries.
In 2025 I received Arts Council England funding for my Touchlines of Fortitude project, inspired by the Women’s Rugby World Cup, celebrating female resilience and empowerment through cultural and creative events in Richmond borough.
Artistic Vision
My paintings are characterised by bold, dynamic brushstrokes and expressive paint drips, balanced with rhythmic patterns, scratches, and mark-making with a palette knife. My practice often involves creating realistic pieces only to deconstruct them into abstract forms repeatedly, revealing and hiding elements in the process.
My paintings are intended to serve as catalysts for personal growth and introspection. The vibrant energy and dynamic composition within my work reflect the transformative nature of self-discovery. My art seeks to evoke a sense of oneness with the universe, inviting viewers into a shared experience.
